More trouble for Chelsea?

Posted on 03 Mar 2010 at 23:46 PM by Formex
More trouble for Chelsea? By Formex Following the midweek international friendlies we have a big weekend in the Premier League and the FA Cup reaches the quarter final stage. Warm Cup favourites Chelsea host Stoke on Sunday by which time they could find themselves only third in the league. With both Man United and Arsenal appearing to have straightforward tasks in notching three points, at Wolves and at home to Burnley respectively, and improving their goal differences this could be another bad week for the Stamford Bridge side who were trounced by Man City last weekend. United find themselves a point off the top having lifted their first silverware of the season, the League Cup, at Wembley last Sunday and on current form they should have little to worry about facing a Wolves side sitting just above the relegation zone. The home side have though performed creditably with draws against Liverpool and Arsenal and did take all three points from Tottenham recently. It may not be a wide margin ...

Formula 1 Winning Combination

As with everything in life, nothing is an absolute certainty (bar death and taxes of course). However, would one seriously consider betting against the McLaren Team and Lewis Hamilton not grabbing the spoils at the end of the F1 Season. First the car, this has come along way since the start of last season and what McLaren actually finished up with in Abu Dhabi. The car now looks 'the business' and actually lives up to expectations. McLaren has also surged ahead of the competition with the development their controversial rear wing design and engine cover set-up - which I am pleased to say, have all been approved and confirmed to be completely legal. Lewis Hamilton has also come of age, with regards to experience and maturity. He was a gem last year for McLaren and always gave his best in every race (no matter how crap the car was - at the start of last season). Lewis now has the chance to take advantage of continuity within the team, and being involved in the development of the car ...

Manchester United Treble!

Posted on 11 Mar 2010 at 18:04 PM by pjmar
We all know that Manchester United picks up the pace right about now. The proof of this is The Carling Cup and the out-right win over (the never defeated before by ManU) AC Milan. Non believers may think the team's success is only generated by Wanye Rooney. However, the game of football is based on a squad of players - a team. In order for the team to be successful, each part, or player has to consistently play well and work together. The strength of Manchester United is reinforced with Vidic and Rio Ferdinand re-united. Also, the maturity of Valencia and ever increasing consistency of Nani compliments the already solid mid-field. The remaining fixtures with regards to the Premiership may not be the easiest, but with the experience and ever growing confidence (based on the Carling Cup and Champions League form); Manchester United, the team, will be able to win the Premiership Title! With regards to the Champions League, Manchester United are now into the Quarter Final Round for the ...

The Return Of The Tiger

Posted on 17 Mar 2010 at 20:14 PM by pjmar
After his controversial break from the Golfing World, Tiger Woods has confirmed his return at the Masters which begins on the 8 th April 2010. The history so far as we know it, after a string of affairs outside his marriage, these sordid details being exposed by the press, the loss of sponsors, the all but complete break down of his marriage and then his decision to withdraw from golf to sort his personal life out. Tiger Woods has now acknowledged his mistakes and publicly apologized for his behaviour, he is also attending therapy with the support of his wife. Therefore, I suppose the next step is the return of the great man. I believe, the break will not really affect his game that much - as when he was out with the knee injury, he came back as strong as ever. The question is and what will be interesting going forward is the reception he gets from the crowd, his reaction to this and the affect this will have on his game. Following on from that, is sponsorship interest and the whether brands ...

Title balance could be with Chelsea after Old Trafford clash.

Posted on 02 Apr 2010 at 20:08 PM by Formex
We were spot on with our predictions last weekend and Blackburn did the business against a totally out of sorts Burnley and they look the nailed on for another three points when they play Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday. Allardyce has his team playing well and they are in their best form of the season having drawn with Chelsea a fortnight ago and then winning their last two. Pompey players and fans will have their minds firmly set on their FA Cup semi-final against Spurs the following weekend and with relegation assured it’s doubtful that the players on show will risk injury ahead of the Wembley clash. Anything odds-against would appear fair value and the layers can all accommodate those requirements. The weekend’s big match takes place at Old Trafford where Man United plays Chelsea in a game that will have a huge impact on who lifts the title. United wait anxiously on the fitness of Wayne Rooney following his injury at the end of Tuesday nights Champions League defeat ...

The Hayemaker - History In The Making

Posted on 03 Apr 2010 at 02:56 AM by pjmar
The Hayemaker's first defence of his well earned WBA Heavyweight Title is on Saturday at Manchester's MEN Arena live on SKY SPORTS. Haye has only lost one in 24 fights, became Boxing Heavyweight Champion of the World with a points win over Russia's Valuev in Nuremberg, November 2009. David Haye has only fought three times as a heavyweight, but his talent and focus should compensate for any lack of experience. John Ruiz is a successful heavyweight in his own right and has been at the top of his field for a long time. He has the experience and claims to have refined his boxing style to ensure victory over The Hayemaker. This opponent has to be taken seriously, with 44 wins (33 of them being KOs) out of 54 fights. What's going to be the result on Saturday - a win for The Haymaker is expected. The bookmakers believe this as well - with all the money on the Champion to retain his belt and in so doing, start his legacy of being one of Boxing Heavyweight Greatests! I'm betting ...

The winds of change

Posted on 12 Apr 2010 at 10:39 AM by markyourcard
As we near the end of another weeks selling class product I keep having to remind myself that the turf (flat) season has started. As usual Doncaster has come and gone, excitement for the new season was titillated, only for it to develop into a slightly embarrassing wet patch by Monday morning. I’ve often wondered why the Jumps season doesn’t end with the Grand National with the flat season kicking off the following week at Doncaster, instead of rather poorly filled sandwich we have to feast upon at present. Bad news on my brainchild of punter/racing personality boxing. Well the bad news is ‘no news’ from the Racing For Change guys’ and I was so sure it would be a runner. I did consider contacting them again but then it dawned on me with all the new revolutionary initiatives about to be rolled out they’re certain to be very busy men (don’t think there are any females on the board). In fact I imagine right now the likes of Stephen Smith, Ian Barlow ...

Racing packs a punch

Isn’t it strange how some days you can wake up with a stinking hangover despite not a drop having past your lips the night before. Well that’s what happened to me every morning courtesy of just about the roughest Cheltenham in my personal memory. By the final day and yet more scanning through the form book asking “how the hell did that one win?” my thoughts were set on just one thing .. ‘Real Racing’ without all those stupid little obstacles in the way, Doncaster, even Meydan here I come. Unfortunately there was a weeks worth on post Cheltenham, pre Doncaster ‘rubbish’ to get through with the likes of Kelso, Plumpton and Wolverhampton serving up ‘burger van’ quality fare and no matter how much ‘sauce’ Gina Bryce poured over it I’m still left with a nasty taste in my mouth. I find the racing industry always has a knack of serving up a much needed distraction and once again they didn’t disappoint … ...

Blackburn look the business to bury local rivals

Posted on 26 Mar 2010 at 21:21 PM by Formex
This has to be the most exciting title race since the Premier League was formed and any one of Arsenal, Chelsea or current leaders Man United could find themselves in pole position come Saturday night. Chelsea moved into second spot on Wednesday night when they won their game in hand by thrashing Portsmouth 5-0 at Fratton Park and they are the only one of the three sides who play at home this weekend. A match against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge is hardly the one the Blues would have chosen as Villa have an excellent record against Chelsea recently, beat them in the reverse fixture, and Villa boast a very decent 3-2-2 record against last season’s top four in their games this term. In contrast to Chelsea’s comfortable midweek win Villa had to suffer a draw with Sunderland at Villa Park following on from their draw at home to Wolves last weekend. It maybe that O’Neill’s side are just wilting under the pressure of a Champions League place fight and Gabriel Agbonlahor’s ...
