Do yourself a favour this week and swap the assault on your ears for a feast for your eyes. Forget that dreadful din from South Africa and switch to the sorenity of the Monterery Peninsula coastline and the US Open Golf Championships. So far, the only thing more irritating than those accursed vuvuzelas and their wasp-like cacophony has been the quality of the football. A definite case of atmosphere and entertainment level at nil-nil and a good case for penalties, mainly against FIFA for such a second-rate show. It can only get better. Not to worry, those looking for a more edifying sporting experience need only wait until Thursday. For only the fifth time the US Open returns to Pebble Beach, which has a strong claim to being the best or certainly the most beautiful golf course on the planet. And the nearest that American golf has to a spiritual home. While this does not guarantee a great spectacle, your aural senses will be battered by nothing more offensive than the crashing of the Pacific

We all know that any major sporting event results in an increased number of bets at sports betting sites, and the World Cup is no exception. Bar the Grand National and some other big horse races, the World Cup is right up there as one of the most gambled on sporting events. But what does a big tournament like the World Cup mean for the many casino players out there? In many cases it results in a range of World Cup specials and every marketing type in the company thinking of ways of inducing people to the sports markets. I think they've missed the point. Many casino players like casino games because they're not into sport. They don't want every 10 th spin of a slot machine to result in a free 10p bet on England to win the tournament. They probably want the attention their genre of gambling deserves and awards that, yes, may include World Cup specials but also bonuses that are available without having to be a devotee of the beautiful game. Have any casinos ever considered anti

I am delighted that Crazy Diego has lived up to all my pre-tournament hype, already providing us with several WTF?!? moments. Here is a countdown of the top 5 wackiest Maradona moments so far. 5. Trend Setter Here we see Diego decked out in full Goodfella's costume with the mafia-esque suit, diamond ear-rings and clutching his now trademark rosary beads. All looks dapper enough, but look a little bit closer and you can see the real fashion statement here: he is wearing two watches. For once there is actually some degree of method in Maradona's madness. It appears he has always had a bit of bother getting to grip with different time zones, and thus whenever he is abroad he wears one watch set to local time and one set to Argentinian time. Maradona is, quite literally, ahead of his time when it comes to fashion. 4. Diva Diego In a move that even Mariah Carey would be proud of, Maradona made several outlandish demands of the hotel that the Argentina team are staying in. Now I am no

Firstly, a big "hello" to the readers of betting.com! My first of many posts here hopefully, I'm betting.com's man on the pulse of all things casino, and I'm going to start with a subject close to my heart: bonuses. Yup, I am a player and, yes, I probably spend more than I should, or at least I used to. I say "used to" because I found a way of limiting my losses while increasing my chances of winning. No, it's not an amazing blackjack strategy, or a secret flaw in an online casino, it's a bit of advice a friend told me: ask. Yeah, ask. I hate to use a cliché, but if you don't ask you don't get, I simply wasn't aware of the significance of the email I got from my favourite online casino, Jackpot Games , announcing that I was a VIP. Okay, it gave me a bigger monthly bonus (a more than pleasing €300 per month, to be honest) but I was still easily polishing that off and more every month. So I decided to take the advice and contacted

Most die-hard supporters will agree that following England in the World Cup is like being in a particularly volatile relationship. Yesterday's embarrassment, then, played the role of a suitably messy break-up and now we are left to pick up the pieces and wonder how it all came to this. Qualifying In the beginning there is nothing but excitement and hopes are high. Yes, maybe you realise that your new partner isn't the complete package, but who out there is without any flaws? Anyhow, they have more than enough positive things about them to make up for anything they may lack. Maybe, just maybe, this could finally be the one . Pre-tournament Friendlies Soon the excitement fades and you realise your partner is not quite the heavenly creature you had initially seen them as. But this is ok, everybody knows that no relationship is ever perfect and you still believe that the two of you have what it takes to last the distance. England Vs. USA Inevitably, the relationship will eventually

What a country we live in! Our summer sports have rarely faired better; 3-0 up against our arch enemies in cricket’s one-day international series, Andy Murray on the brink of Wimbledon immortality and our golfers winning all over the World. Yet, the only topic of conversation is those overpaid louts, who have apparently shamed the nation and their beseiged Italian manager. Is football really the only game in town? More than ever before it seems that the nation is obsessed with the ‘beautiful game’. Well folks, headline news; this World Cup has been absolute pants! A miserable excuse for a major sporting event, it is not ‘beautiful', it is repetitive, unerringly dreary and a non-spectacle. I hope the readers of these pages have won a few bob because the marketing people, who said: “it’s more fun when your money’s on it” were almost right. There’s no fun at all unless you’ve got money on this rubbish! Let’s all cheer up

July is set to be a HUGE month for Centrebet sports fans! The World Cup in South Africa reaches its climax on July 11th to bring an end to a fantastic festival of football. Some will remember this World Cup for the ball, some for the refereeing, some for the lack of goal line technology, and some for the giant bee that hovered above the stadium for each and every game. But Centrebet clients will remember this World Cup for the fantastic money back promotions on offer every single game, including the semi-finals and final! Remember the dull nil-nil draw between Brazil and Portugal? All losing first goal scorer bets were refunded in that match! What about England's dire performance against Algeria? All first goal scorer bets on the likes of Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard also refunded! All Centrebet's money back specials still apply to the semi-finals, final and 3rd place playoff, so there's still plenty of opportunity to add value to that betslip! Let's not forget the Multi

There really isn't such a thing as a free lunch, and that is especially true when casinos offer your overwhelmingly generous welcome bonuses. There's a catch, you can guarantee it. But some catches are there merely to protect the casino, rather than abuse the player. The secret, then, is not turning your back on offers but knowing which represent the best value for money. I'm going to run through 3 Golden Rules I use when looking for in a welcome bonus. Rule 1. If a casino is offering you a no deposit welcome bonus then don't expect to instantly walk away with your winnings. In fact, you can bet your bottom dollar that you'll never be able to go to yuor bank and withdraw cash from the proceeds of that bonus. Look for maximum winnings figures - usually about €200 - and playthrough/wagering requirements on those winnings. More importantly, and here's the real catch, you will probably need to deposit before you can withdraw. In summary: they're not free, limit

As the post-mortem of England's abysmal performance rages on I feel it is only right that I get to jump on the band-wagon and present my top 5 (alternative) reasons for our World Cup Epic Fail. 5. The Language Barrier Now I don't want to seem prejudiced in any way, but there are always going to be difficulties when the top man cannot be understood by those beneath him. It was painfully evident that the communication was just not there; players repeatedly drifting out of their assigned positions, passes to nobody, defensive lapses, all classic signs of a lack of communication. But what can you expect when your captain is a Liverpudlian? Everybody knows that Stevie G sounds like a mouse suffering a helium overdose. 4. Lack of Alcohol After England's glorious, all-conquering 1-0 thrashing of the mighty Slovenia the tabloids triumphantly declared that the win was down to the fact that Capello had let his players enjoy a beer or two the night before the game. Obviously this makes
