The Premier League and Roulette Betting

Posted on 27 Jul 2010 at 17:13 PM by aaronos
Yup, it's nearly that time. We can put behind us the shambles of the World Cup - not just the English flops but a poor World Cup generally - and look forward to the same flops actually getting a grip and putting on a good show. But then, for £100k a week I reckon my grandmother could shake off the zimmer frame and put in a decent 90 minutes. I get distracted...What does this all have to do with roulette, you ask. Good point. Well, 1 I love football and 2 I thought I would compare some bets available on the Premier League market to some of the returns on the World's favourite casino game: roulette. It's great that Liverpool and Arsenal play on the second day of the season. Nothing like a big clash right at the beginning to get a league going, that and the fact the first day sees sure-fire nil nils between Wolves and Stoke and Wigan and Blackpool and the likes. If Liverpool put behind a bad year in 09/10 and can hold on to Torres, then you may fancy a bet on them winning ...

Glorious Goodwood Preview 2

Posted on 30 Jul 2010 at 11:59 AM by JonSmith
We are ahead in the battle against the layers going into the last two days of the Glorious Goodwood and it’s now time to turn the screw on our bookmaker friends. Friday’s Totesport Mile is traditionally one of the most open races at the meeting and this year’s field doesn’t disappoint. The main factor we must consider is the draw with most of the last few winners being drawn high and the good news is the runners that caught the eye earlier in the week have been drawn well and these are the ones to concentrate on. Mark Johnston excels at the meeting and has landed the ‘Mile’ on three occasions and saddles the favourite Sea Lord who won nicely at Newmarket last time out over this trip. The improving 3yo looks sure to go well and drawn 16 of 19 he is in the right place. The one I like best is Ralph Beckett's Oasis Dancer who looks to have been laid out for this and is berthed in highest of all in 19. Before his run in the Irish 2000 Guineas, where he ...

Blues to retain title - you can bet on it!

Posted on 30 Jul 2010 at 12:04 PM by Formex
With the start of the new Premier League season only a fortnight away and the traditional curtain raiser the Community Shield taking place at Wembley next weekend it’s time to nail our colours to the mast for our outright season bets. Last year we were fully behind Chelsea from the moment the prices first appeared and the odds of 3/1 or better were duly landed by the Blues although we had to wait until the final day of the campaign to collect. Ancelotti’s side are not available at such generous odds this time and are no better than 13/8 favourite in any book. Recent signing Yossi Benayoun will fill the void left by Joe Cole and with the return of Michael Essien and without the distraction of the Africa Cup of Nations the Blues should be stronger than last term. The lack, at the time of writing, of any big name signings is hardly a negative but stronger is what Chelsea need to be to retain their title. Man United have strengthened in defence with the signing of Chris Smalling ...

Red Dog

Posted on 03 Aug 2010 at 09:42 AM by aaronos
Why's it called Red Dog? Haven't got a Scooby Doo, but nearly every casino proudly pronounces that it is home to Red Dog. Like a kennel, or something. A red one, perhaps?...If anyone does know please comment below and I'll sort some free chips at my favourite online casino, Jackpot Games , for you. I wasn't even a fan of the game until recently. I thought it has a stupid name and therefore is a stupid game. It really isn't. In fact it's one of those games that is so simple and the logic so balanced - a bit like Hi-Lo - that you can happily play for hours. It's got a pretty great margin too, and you do feel you're so close to beating the casino on every hand. For those that haven't taken Red Dog for a walk then this is how it works: You place an ante bet and two cards are dealt. As the cards are displayed a counter will slide across a board of numbers and payouts. The number of cards between the two displayed is the key to the game. For example, if a 3 ...

Entertain Me Now, Don't Keep Me In Suspense

Have you noticed that no sporting event is a contest in its own right anymore? The media has just turned every event into preparation for the next ‘ultimate challenge’! The only way to actually enjoy an event for its own sake is to have a bet. Win or lose the outcome is final, absolute, not a preliminary, not a prequalification, no dress rehearsal for anything but a heart-thumping, breath-taking, edge-of-the-seat moment in time, who needs the Ashes, a place in Europe or 2012, enjoy the ‘now’? A Test Match starts on Friday. Is anyone interested in this as a contest? The Pakistanis were pathetic at Trent Bridge. The British media has written the current series off as ‘no contest’ and resorted to upping the ante with ‘preparation for the Ashes’. I’m more interested in seeing if KP can break out of his slough. Everybody enjoy the European athletics last week? Nahhh, ‘no Americans’, ‘wouldn’t have stood a chance against ...

Premier League season kicking off..

Posted on 10 Aug 2010 at 09:45 AM by ElaineGardiner
With this Summer's World Cup not long over, we haven't had to survive long without top level football. The Premier League season kicks off at White Hart Lane between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City . These two teams fought to the end to claim the final Champions League berth last season, but City fans will be setting their sights a little higher than fourth place this season. With top names being linked to the Eastlands outfit on an almost daily basis, its sure to be an exciting 9 months for the sky blues. Whether they can claim the title remains to be seen, but this fixture not only marks the return of Premier League action, it also offers one of the best pieces of value for the weekend. Spurs have looked a little further forward than City in pre season friendlies and at 2.4 are overpriced to get off to a winning start. Another team who have impressed recently are Everton. Unlucky to have been hit badly by injuries in the first half of last season, the Toffees really got ...

The Jungle Games Slot Machine

Posted on 11 Aug 2010 at 16:27 PM by aaronos
It isn’t often I write about a single slot game, preferring to talk about the type of machine as a collective. However, there are a few out there that really standout, breaking the mould and transcend the simple “feed coin in, pull handle and repeat” feel of many. One of those that noticeably raise the bar is NetEnt’s Jungle Games. NetEnt are a popular and growing Swedish casino game manufacturer. In the past their games have been seen as an addition to sportsbooks and poker sites, but with a few years of experience behind them they’ve grown into a respected out and out casino software producer. Classic slots like Gonzo’s Quest, Wild Witches and Pacific Attack signalled their intention to produce slots up there with the very best manufacturers, and having just brought out Jungle Games it’s a trend they obviously plan to continue. So what’s so special about Jungle Games? To be honest, in comparison to others out there – the one’s ...

Gunners to spoil Hodgson’s big day

Posted on 11 Aug 2010 at 21:17 PM by Formex
The much anticipated new Premier League season kicks off with the heavyweight clash between Tottenham and Man City in Saturday’s early match at White Hart Lane. Big spending Man City have invested another small fortune, around £80m, since the end of last season and can now boast an increased number of international allsorts in their quest for silverware. Their pre-season results have been modest but hopes are high at Eastlands that with the addition of their World Cup players’ things will get much better. In reality it is expecting a lot for them to gel immediately and they could have had an easier task than a visit to North London to play a Spurs side that did the double over the Citizens last term. Redknapp has worked minor miracles with the Lilywhites since he took the reigns and with some shrewd acquisitions there is no reason why they cannot build on their excellent fourth place of last season. Tottenham beat champions Chelsea comfortably at the ‘Lane’ ...

Money Madness

Posted on 12 Aug 2010 at 15:48 PM by Mr. Ed
FIFA Evil Overlord / President Sepp Blatter once said that footballers are 'modern day slaves'. His typically offensive comments were unsurprisingly met with derision from most quarters; apparently people have a hard time sympathising with the plight of £100,000 a week primadonnas. However, a quick look at the overly-dramatic language that the media use to describe transfers would seem to support Blatter's claims that 21st-century football basically equates to human trafficking. Here are a few of the most common examples to prove my point: 1. The Thrill of the Chase Everton boss David Moyes chases Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos (Daily Mail) Now I realise this transfer rumour is neither particularly recent or relevant, but I felt the need to include it just for the wonderful mental image of David Moyes literally physically chasing Philippe Senderos. You can just see it now; the poor simpleton Senderos awkwardly stumbling and bumbling as he tries desperately to escape ...
