Bet on more gloom for bottom three

Wigan landed the money for us last weekend with their defeat of Blackpool and whilst they cannot be classed as bankers they are an excellent price to inflict further misery on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

The home side have only taken one point from their last 27 and Steve Bruce has seen his side drop perilously close to the relegation zone at a time that has seen Roberto Martinez’s side pull away from the bottom three. The Latics are most certainly the value bet to follow up their win at Blackpool.

Blackpool are desperate for a win and are now in the drop zone for the first time this season with only one win from their last 13 matches. The visit of Newcastle has come at the right time with the Toon likely to be missing some key players but hot on the heels of their goalless draw with Man United in midweek they could ensure another torrid time for the Seasiders. Blackpool have the worst home record in the league and Newcastle can make it defeat number ten for the season at home.

Wolves are firmly planted at the bottom of the table and need to take all three points from their home match with Fulham on Saturday. The visitors have a woeful record on the road which will give Mick McCarthy’s side some added encouragement but with Kevin Doyle out for the rest of the season that could prove beyond them. A draw has to be the call and goals maybe thin on the ground so try 0-0.

Leaders Man United kick-off proceedings in Saturday’s early start at Old Trafford where Everton are the visitors. With five games to play United are a comfortable six points clear of the pack but this could be a tricky game for the Reds following on from their defeat to Man City at Wembley last weekend and their goalless draw at St James’s Park on Tuesday night.

With the first leg of the Champions League semi-final looming on Tuesday and Ferguson likely to rest a player or two together with the knowledge that Everton have done well in this fixture in recent times and are flying at present this could be one for the points to be shared.

Chelsea moved above Arsenal into second place in the table with their 3-1 win over Birmingham on Wednesday and a home game with West ham should not stop the Blues making it 22 points from the last 24 – comfortably the best current form in the league.

The visitors have to perform a miracle to get out of the drop zone without the injured Scott Parker and this looks to be defeat number four on the trot for the Hammers.

Arsenal don’t play until Sunday when they travel to Bolton who have to overcome their 5-0 FA Cup humiliation at the hands of Stoke last weekend. Unless the Trotters can find something to play for here this looks safely left to the Gunners who have an outstanding record against Bolton with nine straight wins here. At the odds Wenger’s side make plenty of appeal.

On Monday Man City, who are Wembley bound for the FA Cup Final should have too much for Championship bound Blackburn at Ewood Park and odds-against prices should be snapped up.
