I know a lot has been said about Portsmouth with regards to
their present situation and how it all came to past.
As a neutral, I feel great sorrow for the fans and
supporters of the club. It is a shame it has come this, in front of the media
and it will now be a cemented in Pompey's history.
However, it does show a lack of control, judgement and
honour by all involved in this fiasco. As a result it is only fair that the
club has been penalised. Hopefully it will provide a wake up call for other
clubs, The Premier League Board and, indeed, the Football Association to ensure
this does not happen again - at least not in the manner and huge scale of
Portsmouth.
Due to them now becoming FA Cup Finalists, Portsmouth are
now to appeal to the Football Association over
their failed application for a UEFA license - in the hope of playing in Europe
next year (Chelsea being certain to qualify for the Champions League as a result of their league position, so the Europa League place on offer for the FA Cup winners would be passed onto the runners-up).
Don't know for you guys, but I find this totally unacceptable.
Along with requests for monies to be advanced to cover debts and outstanding
payments (like basic items like wages!), permission to sell players outside of
the transfer window etc - this is just another desperate attempt to resolve an
already dead situation.
In my mind all these actions achieve is more embarrassing headlines;
showing up the desperate, stupid and childish requests of club still living in
a bubble. It also leads me to think that Portsmouth have still not recognised
their mistakes and therefore, will not be able to move forward to resolve the
real reasons why they are in this desperate and deeply embarrassing mess.
God help their fans, and whoever that buys the club....................
