After the disappointment of the Champions League Final, and
the realisation that Manchester United
are still not ready to take on the might of Barcelona; Alex Ferguson and Co have to look to the future in the
hope of gaining the title next year - third time lucky.
I am pleased to see that we have bought not just one - but
two very good goal keepers. The latest acquisition being David De Gea from Atletico
Madrid for £17 million; and although not part of the Senior team for Spain,
should be part of the squad as a matter of course.
There have been comments highlighting concerns on players'
futures at the club, like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, and
Michael Owen. I believe the area of concern would be midfield - as that area
was the one most lacking, when compared to the likes of the best - Barcelona.
We can all speculate on targets for the summer, but looking at Manchester
United's Youth Team there is quite a strong line up for the future.
Manchester's United Team has dominated for quite some time.
Their win over Sheffield United was the 10th time they have collected the FA Youth Cup - and the 14th time they
have been in the final. The following are a few that we should expect to do
well, sooner rather than later.
Tom Thorpe
(Centre Half) is a very strong central defender. He has been compared to Rio
Ferdinand as he is quite comfortable on
the ball. He is also quite versatile, with the capacity to play anywhere across
the back four. Ryan Tunnicliffe
(Midfielder) has already been compared with Roy Keane and Bryan Robson. In
addition, Sir Alex Ferguson and Gary Neville have both been very impressed with
him - so there is little doubt that Premier League football will feature soon.
William Keane
(Centre-forward) scored twice in the recent final against Sheffield United. He has impressed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which
reflects the promise in this bright lad.
Paul Pogba (Midfielder) originated from the French Second Division and has
been likened to that of Patrick Vieira. Finally, there is Ravel Morrison (Attacking Midfielder), who has already featured as
a substitute in Manchester United's victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the
Carling Cup.
So life after Barcelona looks very healthy. The strength of
Manchester United has always been to learn from their mistakes and become ever
stronger. This mentality coupled with the talent rising from the ranks of the
Youth Team, players to come back from being on loan, the inevitable player
acquisitions in the summer and present depth of the first team squad; will no
doubt ensure that ManU will be ready to retain their Premier League Crown and all the others on offer (not forgetting
the Champions League) !!!
