Beautiful Football Alive and Well

For all those that know me, it will come to no surprise that I am delighted that Arsenal are out of the Champions League. There are many reasons for my huge dislike of the Arsenal. First and foremost, I am a Manchester United Fan - and we all know the intense rivalry ther.

There is also this fan and media perception that 'beautiful football' is the only thing that matters. This then provides the perfect excuse for Wenger not to win anything. What makes this even more irritating, is the constant statements that the team is close to winning something and just requires another game, day, month, year, decade to get it right (but funnily enough no additional players).

There are many other points one can list, like the demand for other teams to not tackle and break Arsenal's style of play; which lends to the fantasy of 'beautiful football'. The constant sulking of Arsene Wenger about his players, other teams, managers, referees and any other aspect that clouds the obvious reason of why Arsenal have failed to win anything. Finally, one can't get forget the brainwashing of the fans, who actually believe this myth that winning is secondary compared to the 'beautiful football' thing.

Anyways, all of this aside, the manner in which The Gunners were ousted from the Champions League is something that we all have to admit did not do justice to the English game. This is in light of the fact that The Gunners are in the top three of the Premiership. I know that everyone in the football world described the meeting of the Arsenal and Barcelona as the ultimate of 'beautiful football' thing; but maybe it would have been better if Arsenal didn't play to Barcelona's strengths and instead try to stop Barcelona (and probably more importantly Messi) from playing their own league of 'beautiful football'.

Thinking about it, I suppose one thing it has proved is that Arsenal's 'beautiful football' is very much crap (compared to Barcelona's). More importantly Barcelona may prove once and for all, that one can have trophies and success with truly 'beautiful football'.

With all the ash in the sky, Liverpool and Fulham have to travel the old fashioned way to get their European ties.

In modern football, there is the theory that footballers would 'suffer', by the mere fact that their schedules and training times are being disrupted. Not to mention their free time! The evidence would be the dull performances of both Barcelona and Lyon in their Champion League games this week.

On the other hand, can we actually accept thie 'excuse'???

The best players, the most effecient bodies/minds, best medical and training environments - in other words, footballers should be one the best sporting bodies, trained to withstand physical and mental strain. Then in the face of a bus ride, the whole game plan turns to rubbish!!!

Please guys tell me I am wrong - even race horses travel and win races!!!!

By the way, come on Fulham!!!!

Liverpool Down and Out

Liverpool fans will be very disappointed, after all the hopes and aspirations of winning the Premiership this year - to, in the last few weeks, aiming for qualifying for the Champions League. And now, after the defeat by Wigan, God only knows what is left for them to aim at.........

What will be extremely interesting will be what happens next - with the financial state of the club and the almost certainity of dropping out of the Premier League Top Four (the consequences of which, we all know too well). Gerard will probably stay and I supose Jamie Carragher will love to keep him company; however, I am betting that Liverpool FC will find it quite difficult to retain and attract any world class talent.

Thinking logically, this situation can only encourage the downward slide of the once invincible reds!!

Life After Edwin

Edwin van der Sar has been a dependable soul in the Manchester United's defence, but at age 39, Fergie must find a deserved replacement. Ben Foster would be the obvious successor, but I get the feeling that Fergie does not see Ben as the long term solution.

After the turmoil that ensued with the departure of Peter Schmeichel from the club, I just hope ManU can get it right first time!

It is probably even more crucial, with the team struggling to get any major trophies this year - with an aging midfield and the search for an additional striker.

Can you really feel confident that England have the beating of Brazil or Spain, also an ominous result last night I feel was the Argentinians going to Germany and winning, could be a bit of value in backing them e/w?

Was anyone else as disgusted as me with the comments of Arsene W this weekend?

I think he should face an FA charge for implying that teams/players are going out with the intention of "doing" his players, it is obvious to anyone who saw the incident that although the tackle was late I cannot see that there was "intent" there to damage the player.

For Wenger to come out and state that there is no such thing as "coincedence" sickened me as I interpreted it as him saying that Shawcross intentionally hurt Ramsey.

This is the same manager who has probably never seen a bad tackle amongst the 80+ red cards that Arsenal have received during his tenure as manager.
